It is important that building occupants be fully aware of the procedures required to organize any event in Wurster Hall. Compliance with these procedures is campus policy, and helps to ensure safe and responsible use of the facilities. For resources on planning events on campus, see the Campus Life & Leadership Event Planning webpage.
Reserving Space at Wurster Hall
In order to use reserved space at Wurster Hall such as Wurster Auditorium (112 Wurster Hall), student groups must first be registered with Campus Life & Leadership. They then must contact the department that controls the specific room in order to reserve it. Groups that are not registered with Campus Life & Leadership need to obtain insurance for their event through the Office of Risk Management, which can be reached by phone at (510) 643-5050.
Permits
If you are organizing an event, you must fill out a Facilities Use Permit, which can be found on the UC Berkeley Real Estate Services website. Depending on the event, you may also need additional permits:
- Consumption of alcohol is not permitted without an Alcohol Permission Form, and is limited to wine and beer. This form may be downloaded from the Campus Life & Leadership Event Planning website.
- A Food Permit
is required at events where food is served to the general public. It is
not required for interdepartmental events. Contact Patrick Kaulback,
Office of Environment, Health & Safety, at (510) 642-1977 or

- Fire Permits
are required for operation of any charcoal or gas barbecue, or for any
event that includes cooking, as well as for events incorporating any
other kind of fire, such as candles. Fire – BBQ and Fire – Special Event permits may be downloaded from the Campus Life & Leadership Event Planning website. Further information on fire prevention may be found on the Office of Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) website. Additionally, you are required to have a fire extinguisher at your event; you will find an Extinguisher Request Form on the EHS Forms webpage.
