Information for Newly Admitted Students

Welcome

New Student Orientation

At the Cal Student Orientation (CalSO) in June, you will review your fall schedule with an adviser and begin enrolling in classes using Tele-BEARS, UC Berkeley's course enrollment system. (Note: We recommend you RSVP to CalSO as soon as possible.) Good preparation is strongly advised before attending CalSO. You should have at least a tentative idea of the courses you wish to take and should try to acquaint yourself beforehand with the course requirements listed on the CED advising website.

If you cannot attend a CalSO program, you still must RSVP online, via the CalSO website, with an explanation of why you cannot attend. Students who are not deemed by CalSO to have a good excuse for missing the orientation (or who do not notify CalSO) will not be able to enroll in classes until July, after all CalSO sessions have ended.

Your Electronic Degree Audit (DARS)

By the end of your first semester, you will be able to check your degree progress on DARS, our electronic degree audit system. You can access your degree audit on BearFacts and should review it each semester to make sure it is accurate and that you are aware of all your remaining degree requirements.
