To Alumni and Friends of the College of Environmental Design: With only about 34% of UC Berkeley's support coming from the State of California, the College of Environmental Design relies upon private giving to provide flexible resources for our three departments, the CED Library, and the Environmental Design Archives. Generous contributions from alumni and friends have helped to foster within the college the spirit of design activism to which we continually aspire. Major gifts and donations to the CED Fund have enhanced our educational programs and opened up a wealth of opportunities for students and faculty—opportunities which include:
We are thankful to have contributors to the college at every level of giving—the countless CED Fund donors, the volunteers who mentor CED students, and the individual and professional members of the William and Catherine Bauer Wurster Society—who have made these programs possible. Last year, the CED Fund (our annual fund) raised approximately $351,000 in unrestricted gifts resulting from a coordinated, strategic program of direct mail, telemarketing and personal solicitation by alumni volunteers and staff. Next year we hope to do even more, and we will—with your help! I hope you will consider supporting the CED Fund and the college. In doing so, you will help our faculty provide the best education in the world by exposing CED's students to the cutting-edge research and innovative thinking for which Berkeley is famous. Thank you for your commitment to a cause that truly benefits CED's students. Sincerely, Harrison S. Fraker, Jr. |
