Why participate?
To gain a better understanding of the profession you are preparing to enter.
What is expected of me?
At a minimum during the school year we hope you will:
- Meet your assigned mentor at the Fall Mentorship Mixer.
- Visit your mentor's office to see projects, observe how professionals work in an office setting, and learn more about the professional and business sides of the organization.
- Ask your mentor to give you a desk critique at studio or participate in a mid-term review (with your professor's prior approval).
What else may be useful to share with my mentor?
We recommend that you plan at least one of the following per semester:
- Meet your mentor at an architecture, planning, or landscape lecture series event.
- Ask him/her to comment on your portfolio or a studio project presentation.
- Ask him/her to comment on your resume.
- Ask your mentor to arrange a guided visit to a construction job site.
- Discuss job search strategies and job opportunities.
- Seek advice about career objectives and how to achieve them.
- Discuss alternative professional paths that may be open to you with your CED education.
- Meet at a museum or exhibition of interest to you and your mentor.
- Ask him/her mentor to arrange a guided tour of another professional office.
The CED Alumni Association sponsors the mentorship program for your benefit. We encourage you to maximize this opportunity to obtain professional advice and expertise. Remember—you will only get as much out of the program as the effort you put into it! CALL YOUR MENTOR TODAY!! If you don't already have a mentor, sign up for the program!
