Why provide electronic access?
- Networked resources provide a new outreach and
reference tool
- Funding agencies are increasingly targeting digitization
projects and other electronic initiatives
- Brings information about our collections to a larger
audience
- Allows for varied presentation (online
finding aids, database interfaces,
virtual exhibits, web
sites) without compromising original order and while protecting
originals from use
- Combined with existing standards, electronic technologies
allow us to capitalize on the flexibility of electronic access
and the effectiveness of established practices
