Winfield Scott Wellington earned a graduate degree in architecture from the University of California, Berkeley in 1923. Wellington worked for several Bay Area architects before becoming a designer in the architecture office of Eldridge T. Spencer in 1928. He then started his own practice in 1930. In addition to his residential projects, Wellington designed exhibition spaces for museums and galleries. Wellington also taught at UC Berkeley's Department of Decorative Art, precursor to the Department of Design, College of Environmental Design.
