Undergraduate Programs & Admissions | Graduate Programs & Admissions Why Study at the College of Environmental Design? A few answers are obvious. We have an outstanding faculty committed to both teaching and research. Our students are diverse, smart, hard working, and committed to change — a wonderful combination. The programs in architecture, city and regional planning, landscape architecture and environmental planning, urban design, and urban studies are all part of a collegewide whole, providing a wealth of perspectives and collaboration opportunities. California and the San Francisco Bay Area are at the epicenter of the demographic, social, and economic changes that are altering our country and world. In terms of quality and diversity, Berkeley is one of a very few world universities. Financial aid is tight these days, but we do provide some financial assistance to our graduate students, and various scholarships and prizes are available to our undergraduates. The weather is pretty nice, the natural environment is unparalleled, and the coffee selection can't be beat. Regardless of whether you are admitted at the undergraduate or graduate level, you will be joining a community of design and planning scholars and practitioners, from which you will be able to draw and to which you will contribute for the rest of your life. UC Berkeley operates residence halls for single students and family housing for students with spouses and/or children. All incoming fall freshman and transfer students who apply for housing by the May deadline generally are guaranteed housing in the residence halls. Contact Residential & Student Service Programs for more information. Information on cooperative housing at UC Berkeley is available from the University Students' Cooperative Association. International House, at the intersection of Bancroft Way and Piedmont Avenue, is a unique multi-cultural housing option available to students. Details may be found at the I-House website.
