The Architecture Shop, located in 277 Wurster Hall, primarily serves as a fabrication facility for students enrolled in courses requiring the modeling or execution of three-dimensional designs. It is also available to all students, faculty, and staff of CED for other, including extra-curricular, projects, when traffic permits. Orientations For all affiliates of CED, attendance at a safety orientation and demonstration is required before using the shop for the first time. A schedule of these sessions is included below. To register for an orientation, you must come to the shop. Please note that even if you will be attending an orientation as a scheduled part of a studio course, you still must pre-register individually. Orientations are subject to cancellation in the event of insufficient advance enrollment. Other sessions may be added after the second week of classes if all four of the sessions scheduled below are filled; each session can accommodate 24 students.
Normal shop hours for summer are:
To register for an orientation, you must go to the Card Key Office in 477 Wurster Hall; office hours are 10 a.m.5 p.m. weekdays. A lab fee, which is currently $80 for each semester or summer session, is due at the time of registration. The Architecture Shop staff has no involvement with the establishment of fee rates, the collection of fee payments, or with requests for fee waivers. The Architecture Shop can accept only Cal 1 Photo ID debit cards in payment of fees. Please note that the lab fee will not be refunded if you fail to attend the orientation session you register for. In order to withdraw from an orientation, or to change to another session, you must return to the Card Key Office and make such changes before the beginning of the session you initially registered for. Please be certain to arrive on time for your orientation. At the discretion of the individual presenter, late arrivals may be refused entry; no refunds will be issued in this circumstance. Early departure from an orientation will disqualify you from receiving an ID validation tag for shop access, which will be issued only at the end of each session. These are participatory presentations, so dress accordingly. If you have already attended an orientation session, your ID card will be validated for shop access by the Card Key Office upon payment of lab fees and completion of a waiver of liability for the current semester or session. Any validation tag issued before Summer 2008 is now void. Shop Storage Room 277A has been partially reconfigured to permit a limited amount of storage for registered shop users. This area is intended only for new materials (e.g., lumber and panels) that have just been delivered to Wurster Hall prior to being worked. There is a seven-day limit on storage in this space. All materials must be identified with the owners name, course number, section, and date; any item not bearing this information is subject to removal and discard. There is insufficient storage space for cut materials, scraps, or projects in process; these items must be removed from the shop each day. All materials left in the shop at 5 p.m. on Friday, August 15, will be forfeit. |
