Ananya Roy, Associate Professor of the Department of City & Regional Planning, was one of three Berkeley professors to win the Distinguished Teaching Award for 2006. This award is Berkely's highest honor for its instructors, and it was the first time in DCRP's 57-year history that one of its faculty received it. Professor Roy's students and colleagues were on hand to give her a rousing standing ovation when the award was presented before a packed house at Zellerbach Hall in April.
Only a few days before this event, Professor Roy learned she had received a 2006 Distinguished Faculty Mentor Award from the Graduate Assembly. Again, she was one of just three Berkeley faculty awardees. And in the same week and to no one’s surprise, Professor Roy was promoted to Associate Professor. Not one to rest on her laurels, Professor Roy spent the summer conducting field research in Lebanon, Egypt, and Bangladesh and continuing in her active role as Associate Dean of International Area Studies and Committee Chair of the DCRP Urban Studies program. |
