Dr. Randall Crane, a professor of urban planning at the UCLA School of Public Affairs, uses the American Housing Survey to examine housing consumption and costs across the country over the past two decades. In addition to reviewing basic trends, he estimates panel models to (a) clarify the roles of alternative explanations and (b) test one or two “big picture” hypotheses regarding labor/housing market linkages. For example, how do race and gender jointly influence the journey-to-work, and has this changed recently?
