Bogotá: Lecciones de un Renacer
Friday and Saturday, October 3-4, 2008 Bogotá Symposium Website This two-day symposium focuses on the urban and social transformations of Bogotá, Colombia, and showcases the exhibit, “Bogotá, el Renacer de una Ciudad” from the 2006 Venice Architecture Biennale, which helped garner the Leon d’Oro in recognition of Bogotá’s recent renaissance. The symposium takes place October 3–4, 2008, and is centered around a keynote address by former mayor of Bogotá, Enrique Peñalosa. See the full schedule of events. Other guest speakers include architect Daniel Bermúdez (who will give a lunchtime lecture on Friday, October 3); Her Excellency Carolina Barco, Colombian ambassador to the United States; planner Camilo Santamaría; former director of the Colombian Studies Program at Georgetown University and urban consultant to the cities of Bogotá and Medellín Gerard Martin; University of Southern California Visiting Assistant Professor of Architecture Rachel Berney; and UC Berkeley faculty members. The symposium is co-sponsored by the Institute of Urban and Regional Development; the Program in the Design of Urban Places (Master of Urban Design degree program); the Center for Latin American Studies; the Berkeley-Stanford CityGroup; The University of California Transportation Center; and the Center for Global Metropolitan Studies. |
