Summary 0000720: PHP / MySQL WWW sites slow
Description I am receiving widespread reports that my WordPress and Vanilla WWW sites have slowed down lately and have noticed this myself. The problem is most evident on the first visit to a site where delays of > 10 seconds are common. The problem seems worse in Firefox. I am wondering if we have a bloated log file somewhere.

BTW, I also noticed a delay on my first page request to this Mantis site.

Can you supply the URL that is generating the slow response.

I have been trying to replicate some of my users' experiences of slow loads. A moment ago my refresh of http://steel.ced.berkeley.edu/cris/kap/discuss/ [^] in FireFox took over three minutes. I had reports last night that this page would not load at all for one user but it works again this morning.

Link to a few reports from my users:

Guy Vinson asked via e-mail: Can you provide the URL of the site that is having a slow response.

My response: Basically all of my PHP / MySQL sites seem to have latency issues. The lag varies in severity - sometimes there, sometimes not. Here are my sites and the lagged times I just experienced in assembling the list.

http://steel.ced.berkeley.edu/courses/fa09/arch244/ [^] - three seconds http://steel.ced.berkeley.edu/courses/fa09/arch245wp/ [^] - three seconds http://steel.ced.berkeley.edu/research/hidden_ecologies/ [^] - ten seconds http://steel.ced.berkeley.edu/cris/kap/wind/ [^] - two seconds
http://steel.ced.berkeley.edu/cris/kap/discuss/- [^] eleven seconds

You will not find me complaining about 2-3 seconds but 10 seconds is feeling slow. And, sometimes the delay exceeds a minute.

I have rebooted the server and hopefully that will solve the problem. I did a search for overly large log files taking up too much space but that didn't seem to be the problem.

I have rebooted the other two web servers since I have no clue where all of Cris's files are located. Stephen really couldn't help me...

I can access the other links in a timely fashion, but not this one:

Please let me know if the access times are acceptable...
