Topic: Predicted versus measured performance of a double-skin façade
Project: RWE AG Headquarters
Location: Essen, Germany
Date of Completion: 1996
Architect: Ingenhoven Overdiek Kahlen & Partner (IOK)
Summary of findings :
Many sources discussing the energy-efficient design features of the RWE AG Headquarters were found, however very few of these provided information on the actual performance of the building.
In the article “Natural Ventilation in High-Rise Buildings with Double Facades, Saving or Waste of Energy” Till Pasquay provides measured temperature data for three case building studies, including RWE AG Headquarters. The article provides several recommendations for the design of a double skin façade, however it does not compare the measured with the predicted temperatures.
