The purpose of this examination is to appraise the candidate's ability to synthesize facts, techniques, and ideas as evidence of ability to pursue independent investigation. The qualifying examination consists of a two-week written exercise followed by a comprehensive oral examination before a five person examination committee. Students must be in residence (i.e., registered) at the time the qualifying examination is taken. Three to four months should be set aside for preparation. |
