The Department of Architecture offers students a number of opportunities for travel. For further information about any of these options, contact the Graduate Office at 370 Wurster Hall. Architecture Studio Travel Several of the architecture studios, including the ARCH 200B and ARCH 201 design studios, include travel during the spring, summer, and winter breaks as part of the curriculum. Courses often take a particular geographical area and architectural problem as the studio theme, and students travel to study the site and culture. Along with destinations in California and the United States, recent studios have traveled to China, Japan, Peru, Mexico, Argentina, Italy, Portugal, Brazil, Thailand, and India. See International Travel in the Master of Architecture program for images of some of these trips. Scholarships and Fellowships The annual Branner Traveling Fellowship is open to Master of Architecture students for nine months of travel. Offered annually, the Judith Lee Stronach Undergraduate Travel Scholarships allow students majoring in architecture, landscape architecture, and urban studies the opportunity to undertake self-directed travel around the world. Summer Programs Each summer, the department sponsors the DIS Denmark Architectural Design and Furniture Design Program, a seven-week residential studio program affiliated with the Danish International Studies program in Copenhagen, Denmark. The program is open to currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate architecture students. See the Study Abroad in Denmark webpage for more information. UC Berkeley Study Abroad Students interested in studying outside the country may also contact Berkeley Programs for Study Abroad, the campus resource center for the University of California Education Abroad Program. |
