ARCH Lecture: Paffard Keatinge-Clay/PKC Arquitecto

Paffard Keatinge-Clay studied architecture in London and engineering in Zurich. His mentor was Sigfried Giedion, and he worked in the office of Le Corbusier in Paris. He migrated to the United States as an apprentice to Frank Lloyd Wright and became a design architect for Skidmore, Owings and Merrill in Chicago, where he came to know Mies van der Rohe. He practiced in San Francisco for 15 years. His work of this period (including the 1969 San Francisco Art Institute Extension) reflects the lessons of his mentors but is also strong and innovative. Jean-Paul Bourdier discusses Bodyscapes

The photography of Berkeley professor Jean-Paul Bourdier makes ingenious use of the two-dimensional nature of images, as his lens captures painted bodies and desert landscapes as they appear to transform and respond to one another. The photos in Bodyscapes combine primal forms and materials with diverse textures to create exciting new interpretations of timeless nature and temporal body. RSVP to jbboudier@berkeley.edu.

CED alumni comprise part of the firm that is working to build the Cathedral of Christ the Light in Oakland. In this review, it says the cathedral will serve as a place of worship and spirituality and will be a sanctuary in many forms.

DCRP Graduate Receives Gill-Chin Lim Award

Michael Donovan, a 2007 Ph.D. graduate of the Department of City and Regional Planning, has won the Gill-Chin Lim Award for Best Dissertation on International Planning from the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning. For more information, visit CED online.

CED Faculty Win 2007 ACSP Davidoff Awards

Two faculty of the College of Environmental Design, Randolph T. Hester of the Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning and Jason Corburn of the Department of City and Regional Planning, have won 2007 Paul Davidoff awards from the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning.
