Call for entries- EDRA/Places Awards 2008- Deadline is February 7, 2008
The 2008 EDRA/Places Awards, in cooperation with Metropolis magazine, celebrate excellent places and how people inhabit them. Awards recognize superior design, planning, research, and -- new this year -- outstanding books. Jurors will include Dennis Frenchman, MIT professor of urban design and planning; Leanne Rivlin, CUNY professor in the environmental psychology doctoral program; Fritz Steiner, dean of the University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture; Susan S. Call for abstracts - 2008 IASTE Conference - Deadline is February 15, 2008
The 11th Conference of the International Association for the Study of Traditional Environments, part of CED's Center for Environmental Design Research, will be held in Oxford, United Kingdom from December 12 to 18, 2008 on the theme Interrogating Tradition: Epistemologies, Fundamentalisms, Regeneration, and Practices. SPARK AWARDS - Deadline is March 15, 2008
The Spark Awards is a new design competition -- for designers, art directors, architects, design firms, manufacturers, institutions, ad agencies, students and novices -- and individuals and companies are invited to submit entries in graphics, mobility design, product, transportation and architecture, among others. A UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism student delves into the history of North Gate Hall, the J-school's building since 1981. The building was the original home to the department of architecture from 1906, when it was built, to 1964, when CED moved into Wurster Hall, its current home.

JOB TITLE: Planning Managers, Senior Planners, Associate Planners

REQUIREMENTS: The Planning Manager reports to the Assistant Director of Planning and has overall responsibility for the work accomplished within an assigned functional team. The Planning Manager guides the work of assigned staff to ensure the team works within established department policies and in accordance with the department’s interpretation of applicable codes, ordinances, laws, regulations, guidelines, policies, and directives. A bachelor'sin planning, geography or a related field and three years of increasingly responsible experience in a supervisory or senior role will be necessary to succeed in this role. A master's degree in planning or environmental services is desired. The position pays $73,961 to $100,951 annually. The final filing date is January 5, 2008.
The Senior Planner is the advanced working level/lead worker in the professional planner series. Under general direction, the senior planner serves as the subject-matter resource specialist to other planners in addition to performing the most complex and controversial projects. A bachelor's degree in planning or a related discipline and approximately three years of experience performing professional planning duties comparable to an Associate Planner position in Monterey County is required. The position pays $5,004 to $6,830 monthly. Applications are accepted on an open, continuous basis.
The Associate Planner, under direction, performs a variety of complex land-use planning work within a team of other professional planners. The associate planner performs journey-level professional planning work requiring a thorough knowledge of county planning policies, procedures, and regulations. A bachelor's Degree in planning or a closely related field and two years of experience performing planning duties comparable to an Assistant Planner in Monterey County or four years of experience comparable to an Assistant Planner in Monterey County is required.
The position pays $4,643 to $6,338 monthly. Applications are accepted on an open, continuous basis.
