LECTURE Dianne Harris: Architecture Department Chair Candidate Presentation Wednesday, September 16   |   1:00 pm   |   104 Wurster Hall The Department of Architecture's faculty/chair search committee has announced its schedule of presentations by the candidates for the position of department chair. All college faculty, staff, and students are welcome to attend. Dianne Harris is a professor of landscape architecture with appointments in architecture, art history, and history at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She currently serves as director for the Illinois Program for Research in the Humanities, as well as the first vice president of the Society of Architectural Historians. Professor Harris received a B.A. in landscape architecture, an M.Arch. degree, and a Ph.D. in architecture from UC Berkeley.

LECTURE Michael Bell: Architecture Department Chair Candidate Presentation Monday, September 21, 2009   |   1:00 pm   |   104 Wurster Hall The Department of Architecture's faculty/chair search committee has announced its schedule of presentations by the candidates for the position of department chair. All college faculty, staff, and students are welcome to attend. Michael Bell is a professor of architecture at Columbia University in New York. He has been director of Columbia's Master of Architecture program since 1999, and also directs core studios for Columbia's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. Professor Bell has taught at Rice University, UC Berkeley, Harvard, and the University of Michigan. Professor Bell received a B.S. in architecture from the Catholic University of America, and an M.Arch. from UC Berkeley.

LAEP COLLOQUIUM Jie Hu: Urban Scale Landscape Planning and Design September 23   |   1:00 pm   |   112 Wurster Hall Jie Hu is the director of the Urban Planning & Design Institute at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. He was awarded first place for his design of the Beijing Olympic Forest Park Planning and Design in 2009 and first place for his design of the Beijing Olympic Green Master Plan at the International Design Competition for Beijing Olympic Green Master Plan in July, 2002 (as a landscape architect with Sasaki Associates, Inc.), among many other awards and honors.

School of Architecture and Planning Dean to Step Down in 2010, UNM Today, 20 August 2009 On June 30, 2010 Roger Schluntz (M.A. Arch ’68) will step down as dean of the University of New Mexico’s School of Architecture and Planning. Over his 10 years as dean, Schluntz has witnessed a number of truly remarkable accomplishments as well as many critical incremental transformations at the School.

Christopher Alexander Wins Vincent Scully Prize, Metropolis Magazine, 31 August 2009 Professor Emeritus of Architecture Christopher Alexander has won the 11th Annual Vincent Scully Prize.
