Come join us for the 5th Annual Sustainability Summit presented by the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Sustainability. This event is aimed to educate and initiate a movement toward sustainability as individuals and as a community. It is also an opportunity to recognize the achievements of people on campus with Sustainability Awards and showcase work done by the large variety of internships and sustainability groups at UC Berkeley. IURD Lecture - Cesar Cardenas Ramirez and Augusto Parada Campos, Murky Waters: Bechtel Profits From Dirty Water in Ecuador

Following water privatization in 2001, Bechtel caused water cut-offs, water contamination, public health crises (including a Hepatitis A outbreak), and flooding. Come hear Cesar Cardenas Ramirez and Augusto Parada Campos from the Observatorio Cuidadano in Guyayquil, Ecuador. They will also discuss the writing of a new constitution for Ecuador. CED SPECIAL EVENT- Nezar Al Sayyad, Distinguished Teaching Award Ceremony and Reception

Architecture and city and regional planning professor Nezar AlSayyad will be honored for his dedication to teaching and contributions to the CED community at the annual Distinguished Teaching Awards ceremony on Wednesday, April 23, at 5:00 p.m. at the Zellerbach Playhouse. The campus community is invited to attend. A reception at the Playhouse will immediately follow the ceremony. Congratulations Nezar!

CED SPECIAL EVENT - Ananya Roy, Golden Apple Award "Ideal Last Lecture"

The College of Environmental Design congratulates Associate Professor Ananya Roy on winning UC Berkeley's 2008 Golden Apple Award for Outstanding Teaching. The award is presented by students to honor those professors who teach with energy — inspiring, demonstrating passion, and showing care in the classroom. It is the only teaching award at UC Berkeley conferred by the students. The award is intended to recognize those teachers who consistently teach each lecture as if it were their last. The winning teacher is asked to deliver his or her ideal last lecture in late April and is presented with a $2,000 cash prize.

SPECIAL EVENT - The 4th Annual California Water Symposium

This symposium presents results from graduate student research in hydrology applied to environmental restoration and conservation in California. It includes a panel discussion by experienced professionals, who will comment on the student research papers and the broader themes raised by their results. The symposium begins with a talk by a well-known authority on water issues. This year, B.J. Miller presents “ Science and Activism: Fish Protection in the Bay-Delta of California”. Fruit and Flowers Honor a Teacher Who 'Knows Her Stuff' by Carol Ness, Berkeleyan, 9 April 2008
CED associate city and regional planning professor Ananya Roy was surprised in one of the classes she teaches on April 3. Roy won the Golden Apple Award, the only UC Berkeley teaching award given by students. Roy will deliver her "ideal last lecture" on April 24; see event listing above for more information.
