Leslie E. Robertson, B.S. Civil Engineering '52, will use examples from the past, and illustrate and discuss where the structural engineer has provided a profound impact into the form, aesthetic, and function of important buildings. ON TV - Watch to see if CED professor wins national award!

CED associate architecture professor Lisa Iwamoto won the History Channel's City of the Future contest in January for her design of what San Francisco should look like in 100 years. Now, Iwamoto's design is going up against other regional winners from Washington, D.C. and Atlanta to determine which design is the best in the country! People across the country cast their ballots in an online competition to determine the winner. Don't forget to tune in to the season finale of "Cities of the Underworld" on May 5 at 9 p.m. EST to find out who wins! |

This symposium presents results from graduate student research in hydrology applied to environmental restoration and conservation in California. It includes a panel discussion by experienced professionals, who will comment on the student research papers and the broader themes raised by their results. The symposium begins with a talk by a well-known authority on water issues. This year, B.J. Miller presents “ Science and Activism: Fish Protection in the Bay-Delta of California”. SPECIAL EVENT - Reception and Dedication of the new CED Distinguished Alumni Lounge

The newly completed CED Distinguished Alumni Lounge, on the 2nd floor of Wurster Hall, is ready for its public debut. Designed by Ratcliff, the Alumni Lounge has a sleek, minimalist, yet welcoming appearance. Steel plates envelop the space to distinguish its setting as well as create a feeling of intimacy. The lounge also features a large plasma screen television set that will display interactive material about the distinguished alumni, student projects, and what’s new at the college. A floor-to-ceiling glass wall with the names of Distinguished Alumnus Award recipients etched into it encloses the lounge.

UC Berkeley Appoints Lawrence Rinder As Director of Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, 25 April 2008
Robert J. Birgeneau, UC Berkeley chancellor, announced the appointment of distinguished curator, critic, and educator Lawrence Robert Rinder as the new Director of the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAM/PFA). Mr. Rinder, who has held prominent museum positions on both coasts, joins the organization at an important period in its forty-five-year history, as it finalizes plans for a new building and expanded programming. |
