We are grateful to all who made the 50th Anniversary Gala a most memorable evening and who contributed founding gifts to the 50th Anniversary Student Support Fund. We are also grateful to our leadership committee, which helped to make the gala possible.
The evening featured a talk by Bruce Katz, Vice President of the Brookings Institution and Founding Director of its Metropolitan Policy Program. Mr. Katz regularly advises national, state, regional, and municipal leaders on policy reforms that advance the competitiveness of metropolitan areas. Currently a visiting professor at the London School of Economics, Mr. Katz has served as Chief of Staff, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and President Obama’s Staff Director, U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Housing and Urban Affairs. Recently, Mr. Katz served on the Obama transition team and as a senior advisor to HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan. In 2006, Mr. Katz received the prestigious Heinz Award in Public Policy for his contributions to urban and metropolitan America. In 2009, he received the Penn Institute for Urban Research Leadership Award, which is awarded annually to urban leaders who have made outstanding contributions to urban scholarship and to building cities that successfully respond to the challenges of the 21st century.
50th Anniversary Student Support Fund
The 50th Anniversary Gala on February 6, 2010, launched the 50th Anniversary Student Support Fund to provide financial support for graduate and undergraduate students across the college.
Supporting the fund is a wonderful way to publicly honor CED‘s tremendous accomplishments, as well as help the college continue to offer its students the chance to develop planning and design solutions that are sustainable, fair, and enriching. Ensuring that CED students have equal access to the excellence of an environmental design education is imperative. Access that is based on the ability to achieve rather than the ability to pay requires new investments in CED’s endowment to support undergraduate scholarships and graduate fellowships.
