Proposal Deadlines
- Studio Exhibits, Research Posters, and Lightning Talks (Reviewed Work): Sunday, January 29, 2012 (Deadline Extended)
- All Other Works (Display Only): Monday, February 6, 2012
Work Categories
Studio Exhibits
- Eligibility: Three students from each participating studio will be selected by their professor.
- Guidelines:
Plans, sections and elevations should be labeled with student’s name,
course title, professor and degree program. Model displays are limited
to one model per student, and one site model per studio class.
- Submittal Requirements: Students should contact their studio instructors regarding their interest in participating in the Berkeley Circus. Once students have instructor approval, students should develop a brief proposal that includes their name, the instructor's name, course number/title, project title, and physical description of the work to be exhibited (for space-planning — we need to know how much space to alot for boards, models, etc.). Students should individually register this information online. Instructors will submit the names of approved participating students to the respective departmental Circus coordinator.
Research Posters
- Eligibility: Open to all students presenting research and analysis stemming from non-studio-based classes. Students will be divided into two groups: undergraduate and graduate.
- Poster Specifications: Each poster must include author name(s), course, professor or adviser’s name, degree program and abstract on your poster. Posters should be 36" x 48" and landscape-oriented.
- Submittal Requirements: 100-word abstract of presentation. Indicate if you are an undergraduate or graduate student and tell us your professor's name, course number/title, degree program, and semester upon which your research is based.
Lightning Talks
- Eligibility: Open to all students presenting non-studio-based research from CED classes.
- Timeframe:
Twelve minutes are available for each student to present. We recommend
limiting talks to eight minutes to allow four minutes of Q&A with reviewers.
- Introductions: Begin by identifying professor, class and degree program.
- Audio-Visuals: Talks may be accompanied by PowerPoint or other digital presentation.
- Submittal Requirements: 100-word abstract of presentation. Indicate if you are an undergraduate or graduate student and tell us your professor's name, course number/title, degree program, and semester upon which your research is based.
Other Works for Display
- Eligibility: Open to all students showing work for any CED class, especially works from other classes in the college that may not fit into the three categories described above, such as photography and other visual studies work. Work initially submitted for review that fit the criteria for poster or lightning talks, but not selected due to space constraints.
- Mounting: All wall-mounted graphic work is required to be mounted on 1/4" foam core. Contact Tim Kline in the Architecture Department at
