The Department of Architecture's faculty/chair search committee has announced its schedule of presentations by the candidates for the position of department chair. All college faculty, staff, and students are welcome to attend.

Dianne Harris

Dianne Harris is a professor of landscape architecture with appointments in architecture, art history, and history at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She currently serves as director for the Illinois Program for Research in the Humanities, as well as the first vice president of the Society of Architectural Historians.

Professor Harris is the recipient of numerous fellowships, grants, and awards. Her research areas include architectural history in the United States during the 19th and 20th centuries; architecture, urbanism, and landscape of the Italian Peninsula, 1600-1800; history of western landscapes, 1400-present; spatial theories of race and critical race theory; and domestic space in the postwar United States.

Professor Harris received a B.A. in landscape architecture, an M.Arch. degree, and a Ph.D. in architecture from UC Berkeley.

Michael Bell

Michael Bell is a professor of architecture at Columbia University in New York. He has been director of Columbia's Master of Architecture program since 1999, and also directs core studios for Columbia's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. Professor Bell has taught at Rice University, UC Berkeley, Harvard, and the University of Michigan.

Professor Bell is an active practitioner, with an architecture firm based in New York City. He exhibits work frequently, and is the recipient of numerous grants and awards. He has 20 years of experience in architecture and urban design with a focus on houses and urban housing. At Columbia, Professor Bell founded the Columbia Conference on Architecture, Engineering and Materials.

Professor Bell received a B.S. in architecture from the Catholic University of America, and an M.Arch. from UC Berkeley.

Tom Buresh

Tom Buresh is Professor and Chair of Architecture at the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Michigan. He has served as associate dean of academic affairs, and has taught at the University of Minnesota, the University of Texas, Rice University, UC Berkeley, the University of Melbourne, SCI-Arc, and UCLA.

Professor Buresh is a principal of Guthrie + Buresh Architects, whose work has been published in over 45 books and exhibited internationally in New York, Los Angeles, Barcelona, London, Copenhagen, Vienna, and Tokyo. The firm's research engages both critical practice and contemporary theory. Professor Buresh is the recipient of numerous honors and awards, and is well-known for his exhibit The Unprivate House at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Professor Buresh received a B.A. in architecture from Iowa State University and a Master of Architecture degree from UCLA.
