CED e-News is the electronic newsletter of the College of Environmental Design that offers periodic updates on what’s happening at the college and in the environmental design fields in general.

Places: A Forum of Design for the Public Realm is sponsored by CED and eight other schools of architecture, design, and planning. Investigates designs and proposals that embody thought in ways that deserve continuing debate and attention.

Invisible Corviale: Undergraduate Thesis Option, Spring 2008

From the preface:
Corviale is an idea of a building, poured in concrete. It rides the horizon ten kilometers southwest of Rome like a mirage, a great wall between the metropolis and the Tyhrennian Sea. Its weight is the weight of the modernist program, literally and figuratively, a remnant of an ideal. In spring 2008, fourteen Berkeley students traveled abroad in search of the less visible aspects of Corviale, each in pursuit of an original architecture born of the existing one. Just as Italo Calvino extended the visible city of Venice into dozens of alternative architectures in his classic work Invisible Cities, these students discovered within the singularity of the far less romantic Corviale a set of imaginative architectural propositions that address contemporary theory, vision and aspiration.
