The CAD/CAM Lab is located in 481 Wurster Hall. The lab is available for the development of digital designs utilizing both 2D and 3D fabrication machines. Equipment includes a Universal Laser Systems ULS X-660 laser cutter and two 3D printers: the Z-Corp Z-400 and the Stratasys Dimension FDM. The X-660 is ideal for the cutting and engraving of a variety of flat materials. The Z-400 utilizes starch powder and binder to build models, while the FDM machine uses plastic resin. Both faculty and students are encouraged to use the lab. The lab is available to graduate students in the College of Environmental Design and to undergraduate students in the Department of Architecture. Trained student technicians are available 30 hours each week to assist in the creation of digital files and facilitate use of the machines. Specially trained students with a strong understanding of the lab's operation and safety procedures will be granted after-hours card-key access to the lab for use of the laser cutter ONLY. All student users must attend a training session, have read and signed the lab rules and procedures, and paid the lab fee before using the CAD/CAM equipment. The lab fee is $80, which can be paid at the Card Key Office, 477 Wurster Hall. Sign-up sheets for lab use are posted outside the door of the lab each Sunday. All additional information about lab rules may be found in the CAD/CAM Lab Rules and Procedures [pdf]. Staffed Hours
