About the Scholarships
The Judith Lee Stronach Undergraduate Travel Scholarships seek to offer undergraduate students within the College of Environmental Design the opportunity to engage in self-directed travel or service-learning opportunities around the world during the summer and winter months.
The scholarships fund is an expression of the affection felt and received by the donors in the several decades during which they have been a part of the Wurster Hall community. It is an affection that is now best expressed and memorialized by the goals of these scholarships.
The summer scholarships support travel and study related to enrollment in an approved/established study-abroad opportunity, volunteer work, internships with nonprofit organizations or senior thesis research. Winter scholarships are limited to travel associated with senior thesis research.
It is hoped that these travel opportunities will result in students furthering their education and sense of self through:
- exposure to places unknown and peoples unlike themselves;
- joining learning situations and settings from recognized service-learning projects, through which they will find personal satisfaction while assisting others in ways that will enhance the human potential of those who inhabit the built environment; and
- initiating, where possible, the development of hands-on-projects that help to advance change in the way people interact with the world around them.
